A coat like human hair and sensitive skin. This breed?s very long (12 to 22 cm), straight silky hair is never shed ? it goes on growing constantly.

As it has no undercoat, its skin is more exposed (to wind, cold, pollution etc) which weakens it.Long life expectancy. A Yorkshire terrier may live to be 15 or even 20 years old. The older it gets the greater its vulnerability to heart, kidney and joint problems.

Greater requirements in terms of palatability. A Yorkshire Terrier has fewer than 60 million olfactory cells, compared to 200 million in a German Shepherd. Its sense of smell is therefore weaker.
