Splintex Silver 30ml

Splintex Splintex Silver 30ml

Formulated for Fresh Splints. Fresh splints may typically be up to 60 days after initial appearance. Important: Allow the horse total rest. Total treatment time may be 15 days, or 3 five day cycles. Directions: (1) Apply very lightly (tap excess off brush). Avoid brush stroke overlap. If applied area is glossy, wipe excess or wash, dry, reapply. Take extra care in hot temperatures. (2) Bandage. (3) Repeat days 2 and 3. (4) Remove bandage day 4 and 5. (5) Reapply 6th day following cycle above. (6) It may not be either advisable or practical to bandage young horses. Then apply very lightly daily for 3 days followed by 2 days of rest. Repeat cycles. This method may take longer than 15 days. (3) Repeat 5 day cycle until splint is eliminated. Important: Do not mix with DMSO. It is an industrial solvent and is hence so labeled. FDA has banned DMSO for sale intended for use on livestock. How do splints develop? Splints usually occur as injuries to and inflammation of the interosseous ligament between the splint bone and the cannon bone, interosseous desmitis, and also as injuries to the periostium or outer layer of bone, periostitis. These injuries then calcify into exostoses. How do they affect the horse? Splints are unsightly blemishes in all cases. They detract from the appearance and reduce the value of horses. In certain cases they may be the cause of clinical lameness. Causes: Such factors as concussion, an external blow, strain, conformation and nutrition may be the causes of splints. Treatments: Horses have been subjected to various treatments. Some methods are more difficult than others; some are more successful than others.Ttreatments are: rubbing, blistering, firing, DMSO, which has a very poor record in splint treatment, radiation, which is dangerous, and surgical removal, (please see below) which is expensive. Silver Splintex offers an inexpensive, topical, safe and effective way to eliminate fresh splints, all horses, all ages in usually 12-15 days. Available only from veterinarians. Contact your veterinarian. Prevention management: (1) Avoid excessive concussion and strain with young horses. (2) Select horses with proper conformation. (3) Feed nutritionally balanced grains and forages. Alfalfa is a good feed. However, it is best not to feed alfalfa to rapidly growing young horses. Splint management: (1) Always give total rest to a horse with a fresh splint. (2) A horse with a hardened splint can follow his routine if lameness is not present.
